IRISHIA HUBBARD
My CHOREOGRAPHY.
I am driven by the climate of the world around me. I am often inspired by musical compositions, poetry, or current events. From complex political concert pieces to high energy commercial jazz performances, I strive to showcase my range and ability to cross between multiple dance forms. My work is a fusion of jazz, modern, concert, and commercial dance concepts. Having this interdisciplinary skill allows me to navigate through various art spaces to reach a larger audience.

Costume Design | Christopher Larson Music | On The Run - Ivory Sessions by AMYRA down, down baby
Run time 6 minutes down, down baby depicts a familial relationship between old friends. Designed from childhood games, the work examines how play can bring out your inner child and cultivate ones memory. The performers reminiscence over their pasts while acknowledging that their time together is limited. The musical score, developed by myself and my partner Dylan Romaine, was built from sound samples of hand games I played as a child, such as Double, Double, Lemonade: Country Ice, and Slide.

Why Do I Always Survive
Run time 7 minutes Due to the lack of commitment to preserving Black films, early-moving dance images are erased. As a result, we, as Black artists, are left with only fragments of our history. And Still is solo (work and progress) references this forgotten history through the embodiment of Black moving images. The work interweaves the performer's personal response to the erasure of Black images and her attempt to rectify what was erased. I plan to expand this piece further by calling on wider range of moving images and by centering the topic of cultural illegitimacy.
